Association of New Jersey Household Hazardous Waste Coordinators Meeting

Welcome and Introductions

ANJHHWC President Daniel Napoleon called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.  Meeting began with self-introductions. Guests were Dennis DeMatte and Greg Hulse.

A motion was made to approve the minutes from September 24, 2014 meeting.  Minutes were approved by Ron Berenato and seconded by Brian Costantino.  There were no comments on the minutes.

Treasurer’s report

Chris Sikorski provided the Treasurer’s report.  He reported the ANJHHWC’s account balance is currently $23,383.00.  Chris Sikorski gave an update on the DOT Training – the class limit is 30 and currently there are 24 people signed up.  Alain Fortier indicated that 2 will attend the training from Monmouth County. Renee Casapulla moved to accept the Treasurer’s report and Melinda Williams seconded the motion.

Paint Care Update

JoAnn Gemenden reported that (S1420/A1603) passed the Legislative session and has to be signed by Tuesday, January 19 or it is automatically pocket vetoed by the Governor

All members were asked to call the Governor’s Office and tell them you support the Governor signing S1420/A1603 into law.  The main number is 609-292-6000.

E-Waste

Diana Vigilante stated that e-waste revisions to A4763 passed the legislative session and also has to be signed by Tuesday, January 19 or will be pocket vetoed.

JoAnn Gemenden commented that the state E-waste drop-off list is outdated and requested members update their county information and send it to NJDEP.  She surveyed Union County sites and found out that Staples is not accepting any TVs and Best Buy will only accept TVs less than 32”.

Renee Casapulla and Tony Riviera stated they have been in contact with Vintage Tech and Vintage Tech is charging $0.20 per pound, a gas surcharge per mile and a trucking fee.

Monica Gismondi, Frank Brill, Wayne DeFeo, Ernie Kuhlwein, Jim Entwistle and Ann Moore were invited to meet with the Governor’s Council today at 10:30am to discuss e-waste. They reported that they presented support for A4763 and think legislation has a 50-50 chance.  Frank Brill and Wayne DeFeo are working on a press release.

Website Updates:

Fred Stanger requested that counties notify Larry Gindoff of their 2016 HHW event dates and update any other information on the newsletter chart.

President Daniel Napoleon announced several upcoming events:

  • DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation Training – February 23, 2016
  • SWANA Conference – April 18-19, 2016 at Tropicana in AC
  • 2016 NAHMMA National Conference – 9/12/2016-9/15/2016 in Portland, Oregon
