Acceptable Items: Adhesives, Aerosol Cans, Antifreeze, Brake Fluid, Car Batteries, Cleaners, Drain Cleaners, Fire Extinguishers, Flares, Fluorescent Bulbs (no broken bulbs), Gasoline, Gas/Oil Mix, Kerosene, Lighter Fluid, Mercury, Motor Oil/Filters, Paints (Latex/Oil), Paint Thinner, Pesticides/Herbicides, Photographic Chemicals, Pool Chemicals, Propane Tanks, Stains/Varnishes, Thermometers, Thermostats.

Rechargeable & Button Cell Batteries (individually bag each battery or tape each terminal end prior to transport).  Alkaline batteries can disposed of in regular trash.

Non-acceptable Items: Appliances/Furniture, Electronics, Empty Containers, Explosives and Munitions, Infectious/Medical Waste, Smoke Detectors, Tires. No containers over 10 gallons.

Please note that the acceptable/unacceptable waste lists are not intended to be all inclusive. If you have an item which is not on either list, please call the Division of Solid Waste Management.

Asbestos – Prior to bringing asbestos containing material , you MUST pre-register by calling our Division at (732) 745-4170. You must double bag the material for transport, and you cannot bring more than 500 lbs. per vehicle per day.

HHW Participation Rules

  • Middlesex County residents only
  • No commercial or industrial waste
  • Free of charge
  • No containers over ten gallons

Paint Drop-Off Program – Acceptable Items: Paints and Paint Related Items including latex (water based) paints, oil based paints, stains, varnishes, lacquers, thinners, and aerosol (spray) paints.

Explosives or Highly Reactive Materials may be dangerous. If you have these types of materials, call first for safety instructions. DO NOT bring these materials without prior authorization! These dangerous items include, but are not limited to, picric acid, isopropyl ether, calcium carbide, perchloric acid and benzoyl peroxide.
