Call to Order – The meeting was opened by President Alain Fortier at 10:00 a.m. at the NJ State Police ROIC (Regional Operations Intelligence Center) facility in West Trenton.  He Thanked Major Dennis McNulty for hosting our meeting.

Self-introductions followed.

President Fortier announced the “Hazardous Materials Transportation Training” is scheduled for February 23, 2010.  It will be held at the Middlesex County Fire Academy in Sayreville.  Registration flyer and more details to follow in the coming months.

President Fortier announced that Todd Ellis of RBRC is the East Coast representative.  RBRC has a grant program; a small committee of ANJHHWC members will begin writing the grant to include statewide initiatives to encourage residents, schools and the commercial sector to recycle their Rechargeable Batteries using RBRC’s services.

A motion was made by Fred Stanger to use up to $1,000.00 of ANJHHWC funds towards the RBRC grant.  Seconded by JoAnn Gemenden and approved by all members in attendance.

Proposed Amendments to the By-Laws:

  • Term for Treasurer’s Position

Proposed amendments were presented by several members of the Executive Board which was followed by Questions and Answers; thus the first reading was accomplished and this will be presented at the Holiday meeting and voted on.

Treasurer’s Report: Chris Sikorski stated the current Account balance at the time of the meeting it was $10,595.43.  Motion to accept the report was made by Diana Vigilante of Somerset County and seconded by JoAnn Gemenden of Union County.   Motion was approved by the membership.

Holiday Meeting: Treasurer Sikorski announced that we are attempting to schedule the Holiday Meeting on either Dec. 9 or 10.  Our guest speaker will be Todd Ellis of RBRC- Call2Recycle.org

IRS Workshop: Both President Fortier and Treasurer Sikorski are registered and will attend the IRS Workshop for Small & Mid-Sized 501 (c) (3) organizations on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 in King of Prussia, PA.  Workshop will explain what 501 (c) (3) organizations must do to keep their tax-exempt status & comply with tax obligations.

Merck LEAN Pilot Program: A discussion ensued regarding other counties that may be using LEAN practices.  JoAnn Gemenden said Union County is considering using LEAN practices in 2010.                                                                       

Speaker: Dave Smith from We Recycle! Inc. of Mount Vernon, NY presented E-Waste topics from the latest conference he attended.  (Dave will e-mail me his program; when he does I will forward it to the membership.)

Background presentation of the ROIC was given by Mr. William Kelleher, Sr. Planner.

ROIC Facts- 2007 Green building, Geo Thermal Heating & AC, Solar cells on the roofs, Power supply on two grids with major backup generators.  ANJHHWC members were given a tour of the ROIC.
