Hazardous Waste Disposal

Monmouth County’s Permanent Household Hazardous Waste Site in Tinton Falls is accepting appointments for disposal of materials from county residents.

  • Operating Hours are:
    Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • To schedule an appointment, please call: (732) 922-2234 during business hours: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Maximum amount per visit is 200 lbs. of dry material or 20 gals. of liquid.
  • No containers larger than 5 gals.

Please be prepared to provide a description of the types and quantities of materials you will be bringing.

Nonhazardous solid waste management, which includes garbage and recycling, is handled primarily at the municipal level. Questions pertaining to garbage collection, recycling collection, bulky waste pick-ups and recycling depots can be directed to your Municipal Recycling Coordinator.

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS – Pesticides, Herbicides, Fertilizers, Solvents, Thinners, Corrosives, Cleaners, Pool Chemicals, Liquid paints, Varnishes, Aerosol Cans (Full or partially full), Used Motor Oil, Anti-Freeze, Gasoline, Batteries (Household or Automotive), and Propane BBQ Tanks. All items must be in closed containers with original labels. Maximum amount accepted is 200lbs. of dry material and/or 20gals. of liquid. No containers larger than 5gals. each.

NON-ACCEPTABLE ITEMS - Lab Reagents, Concrete, Electronics, Car Tires, Explosives, Radioactive Materials, and Asbestos. No unknown or unidentified materials allowed! No commercial or industrial contributors! Businesses must contract privately for proper disposal.

  • This program is for Monmouth County residents and institutions only. Identification required.
  • Schools and Municipalities must call 732-922-2234, extension 10 to make special arrangements.
  • This public service is sponsored by the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and is supervised by the Monmouth County Health Department.
  • There is no charge to qualified participants.

Household Batteries?

There are common collection sites for household batteries throughout Monmouth County including municipal drop-off centers, municipal offices, and libraries.

Caution

Explosives or Highly Reactive Materials may be dangerous. If you have these types of materials, call first for safety instructions. DO NOT bring these materials without prior authorization! These dangerous items include, but are not limited to, picric acid, isopropyl ether, calcium carbide, perchloric acid and benzoyl peroxide.
